It’s time to talk a little bit more about intellectual property and what it does to the world. We all have dealt with intellectual property, but the consequence of miss-use is something that I find intriguing to look at. It turns out that if you steal something in the computing scape many of the consequence that result for stealing physical property apply about the same. Copyright laws outline the fines as such, “The law provides a range from $200 to $150,000 for each work infringed.” On top of all that you can spend a plethora of time in federal prison for stealing work from others. So, the moral of the story is… don’t steal from others. Even if it’s something as small as a pirated film.

Todays topic is gender issues in Computer programming and computer development as a whole. From the very brief research that I did, I found that only 18% of all computer science majors are female back in 2016. I don’t know what that is looking like now, but at least I have a benchmark to look at. With how import computers are and are certainly becoming, I think it is kind of odd that we don’t see more females in the field. Honestly I think it is just a matter of time until computer science classes will be taught in K-12 as nothing more than a core class. The future revolves around what the computers we have are capable of computing. As for now, I believe it is just time to wait and see what the future holds for the rest of us. Men and women alike.

Since class simply didn’t exist, I want to take a post to talk about politics. These last couple of weeks really have been something. There have been many conversations had with a couple of people that are very close to me and I really feel like I learned a lot from them. To be honest up front: yes, I voted.

If either candidate would have won, my day would not have changed much. I think both have their issues and their own strengths as well. I did have a preference and that is all I have to say about that.

My family has lots of views on lots of things and politics is just something that I have never wanted to argue about. I’m just hoping that everyone thinks before they do and everyone stays safe with all the mixed feelings in the world.

After half a second of nothing to read in class, we have been hit with a plethora of topics to talk about. The main topic I want to talk about is social media and wishing the death of others on it. The article that I read was all about a…

The topic that we went over in class that this was due was all about open source code and open source software. This is the fundamentals of what makes the world go around. For those who may be a wee bit lost on what the use of open source software is, well think of it as the bricks to make a wall. They are the big chunks that can be cut down or added to, to fit into a project that uses them. Say you have an idea and have no idea where to start, well there is probably some open source software that you can start with and then form it into the final product that you need. That is the basics of open source software and some of the applications it may have.

The last few weeks have really been a hassle. I have been working a whole lot more than I normally do on a busy week and as we move further into the semester, classes have more going on. In my CS 1410 class I have a project coming up that has got me rather lost. I have been hacking away at it for a couple days now, but in the end I’m going to just have to wing it. This post is honestly just a PSA for all the college students that have joined me on this boat. Keep up the hard work and chip away at the work you have. Never forget what the end goal is and don’t lose yourself in the process.

Thoughts About Writing

I have never been a huge writer, or would even claim to be a great writer. Yet, here and there I’ll sit down and put what’s on my mind on a piece of paper. Most the time it’s whats going on in my life at the moment, but sometimes it’s just a story that I want to remember. I am pretty excited to sit down and try to write a little. My biggest problems with writing usually revolve around being assigned to write something. That was honestly the part of my English classes that I had the hardest time with. There is a certain freedom that writing can give and an assignment pushes that away for me. I guess only time will tell how writing in my future will be and how much of an impact it will have is up in the air as well.
